Demon Hunter: Section 8: Demon Hunter Inferno Gearing

by Jassper of The Diablo 3 Leveling Guide

Gearing your demon hunter can be a bit of a daunting task. In such a gear-driven game like Diablo 3, it becomes extremely important to choose the right gear. Unfortunately, with so many various stats and the completely random distribution of these stats across items, you really need to know what you’re looking for.

If you approach gearing without a solid plan, you will most likely end up wasting a ton of gold and will probably end up with a character that has below average stats and DPS. Believe me, when I was getting started, I wasted an embarrassingly large amount of gold.

However, if you have a game plan going in, you will be able to systematically search the auction house and the gear drops you find for the vest best items, ensuring that you are getting the most out of your top stats in each gear slot and not wasting time and money.

General Tips

As a general rule, you’re going to want to try to distribute vitality and dexterity across all of your gear slots. However, there are certain slots that either offer a particular stat in extremely high amounts or slots that happen to be the only slots to offer a particular stat at all.

You will need to make sure you are taking full advantage of these opportunities to stack some of the stats that will benefit you the most heavily.

  • Crit Chance: Helm, Bracer, Gloves, Neck, Rings
  • Crit Damage: Gloves, Neck, Rings
  • Resist All: Chest, Pants, Shoulders, Boots
  • Movement Speed: Boots

The 10:1 Rule

Many demon hunters swear by the “10:1 Rule”, which states that you should have a 10:1 ratio of  Armor to Resist All in order to reduce diminishing returns. For the most part, I agree with this theory, however, there is one thing to keep in mind.,

Once you have gained about 3000 armor, for a ratio of  3000:300, you will find that armor becomes a bit tough to increase any further compared to Resist All. When this happens, feel free to abandon the 10:1 rule and simply stack as much Resist All as you find necessary in order to survive your particular act.

Alright, let’s get started with a full breakdown of exactly how to gear your demon hunter for play in the hardest levels of Diablo 3. First, let’s take a look some of the more defensive gear options, since Inferno require quite a bit of damage mitigation to survive.
