Diablo 3 Leveling Strategies – Health Globes

by Jassper of The Diablo 3 Leveling Guide

Health GlobesIn this Diablo 3 leveling strategy, I would like to discuss the functionality of health globes in Diablo 3 and a couple strategies for making the most efficient use of them.

Unlike D2, Diablo 3 no longer allows the limitless chugging of health potions to stay alive in battle. Instead, a new system of regaining health was introduced called health globes (also known as health orbs). These health globes have a random chance to drop from the monsters you kill and will restore a certain percentage of health to you and other friendly players in the immediate vicinity.

Because each player receives the same amount of health from a health orb, regardless of how many other players its effects are shared with, it makes sense to try to coordinate the activation of health orbs whenever possible when playing in a group with others. That is to say, try to “use” them when other players are near, or even use your voice chat to call out that you will be grabbing the orb and that other players whose health is low should run into the area to receive the health boost.

Another useful strategy when facing off with large groups of enemies is to pick off the weaker enemies first. If you’re able to quickly kill off a bunch of the weaklings, odds are good that a few health orbs could drop which will come in handy while battling against the remaining, more difficult foes. Sometimes an extra health orb could make the difference between life and death, and as we all know, death slows down leveling which is never good!

I mentioned something related to this on my blog, namely how undesirable it will be to have a high value of the +range for gold and orbs in high survivability situations (ie inferno). My reasoning is if I cleeve down a pack of mobs and 3 of them produce health orbs while I’m still at or near full health I’ll want to stagger my pick up. Esentially I’ll force move away from the orbs until such time as I have taken enough damage to require one of the 3. Grab it, rinse and repeat as I take damage. With high +range on orb pick up I won’t be able to prevent collecting all 3 the insant they spwan, regardless of my current health or damage I expect to take in the future.

That’s a great point, Kurllkrum! I would agree that +range might create some problems in those scenarios. +Range will likely be very helpful, however, when farming easier levels for loot or gold, or even depending on individual playstyles while grinding through mobs. On May 15th all our questions will be answered!
