Wizard Leveling Build: Levels 11-20

Now that you’ve gotten the hang of your wizard character and have learned to use some of his/her defensive and offensive abilities, it’s time to add a few more skills to the mix.

Below are some of the new skills you should be picking up between levels 11 and 20:

Wizard ElectrocuteActive Wizard Skill – Electrocute (Signature)

At Level 15 you gain access to Electrocute. Electrocute sends out bolts of lightning that deals 80% damage and can arc to two additional targets.  You should use Electrocute to replace Magic Missile. I personally prefer Electrocute to Magic Missile because it offers a bit more firepower and has the potential to jump to many more targets when modified with the proper skill rune.

Best Skill Rune (None available for levels 11-20)

Wizard Ray of FrostActive Wizard Skill – Ray Of Frost (Secondary)

Ray of Frost is probably my favorite and most “go-to” ability of the 11-20 level range for wizards. This skill not only deals an impressive 215% cold damage, but it also decreases your target’s movement speed by 30% for up to 3 seconds. While it doesn’t have the target penetration of later ability such as Disintegrate, it’s the best we can get at these levels. I recommend using Ray of Frost in place of Arcane Orb. Use it and use it often!

Best Skill Rune- Snow Blast

Snow Blast provides a simple damage increase to Ray of Frost increasing the damage to 280% when used continuously on a single target.

Wizard Diamond SkinActive Wizard Skill – Diamond Skin (Defensive)

Diamond Skin is a VERY handy skill to have, as it acts as an “Oh $@#!” button when you find yourself in a tough situation. Diamond Skin lasts for 6 seconds and protects you from a huge amount of damage during that time. The amount of damage absorbed by this ability depends on your level, but trust me when I tell you, it’s extremely useful! I prefer Diamond Skin to Frost Nova as a defensive ability, and thus will be swapping those 2 skills for this level range.

Best Skill Rune - Crystal Shell

The Crystal Shell rune essentially doubles the amount of damage absorbed by Diamond Skin. ‘Nuff said.

Wizard Wave of ForceActive Wizard Skill – Wave Of Force (Force)

Continue using Wave of Force to keep your distance from enemies by knocking them back while simultaneously doing a good deal of damage. At level 15, we gain access to our first skill rune for this ability.

Best Skill RuneImpactful Wave

Impactful Wave is a great rune that amplifies the already useful abilities of Wave of Force. This rune increases the knockback and adds a stun effect to the ability.

Wizard Ice ArmorActive Wizard Skill – Ice Armor (Conjuration)

Ice Armor is my preferred armor spell for this level range. This ability shields you in ice for 120 seconds and helps keep attackers at bay by either chilling them or freezing them (if you get lucky). Since we won’t be using Frost Nova, this is a good way to give yourself a little mobility edge over your foes as you’ll be able to more easily escape them once they’ve chilled out.  Sorry, TERRIBLE pun…

Best Skill Rune- Chilling Aura

Chilling Aura slows nearby enemy movement speed by 30%. Very helpful when kiting and trying to escape difficult situations.

Wizard Glass CannonPassive Wizard Skill – Glass Cannon

Glass Cannon is a bit of a yin-yang ability. While it increases your damage by 15%, it also will decrease your armor and resistances by10%. During these early levels this isn’t such a big deal and the extra damage will be appreciated. However during later difficulties the lowered resistances will probably make things a bit tougher than they need to be. use it wisely.

Wizard Passive ProdigyPassive Wizard Skill – Prodigy

Prodigy is a handy passive ability that provides an increased rate of Arcane Power return. Prodigy will allow you to regain 4 Arcane Power any time you damage an enemy using one of your signature abilities such as: Electrocute, Shock Pulse, Magic Missile and Spectral Blade.
