Barbarian: Section 11: Gearing Your Barbarian For Inferno

by Jassper of The Diablo 3 Leveling Guide

Let’s take a look at what you should be searching for in terms of gear to really make this build work well.

Tip #1: Something to keep in mind when looking for gear is that typically the most expensive items are going to be those that have everything you could ever want all on the same piece of gear. You can often save an enormous amount of gold when shopping the AH by purchasing gear with the big picture in mind. Instead of trying to get all your favorite stats on each piece of gear, purchase pieces that are very high in a couple stats but lack others. They will usually be a lot cheaper.

For example, instead of looking for a ring with a decent amount of all resists, armor, strength and vitality all on the same item, focus your objective. Look for one item with a huge amount of just vitality and armor and seek to stack the strength and resists on another item, at the exclusion of vitality and armor. This way, you end up with the same total amount of stats but you avoid paying the premium charged for having them all in the same place.

Tip #2:  Stormshield, String of Ears, Helm of Command, Justice lantern are great but only for the right price. These legendaries are indeed good items assuming solid stat rolls, but if the prices are too high you are better off with a good old rare item. If these are very highly priced and the orange text starts tempting you, be careful not to waste your money and look elsewhere.

Tip #3: Don’t spend too much money on Life on Hit. If you are lucky enough to find a great amulet/neck/weapon with LoH for a great price then by all means snag it. Otherwise, a weapon with a 300+ LoH amethyst and a couple decent pieces of jewelry will be fine. You definitely don’t need to worry too much about hitting 1000+ LoH if you have a good amount of defensive stats.

Specific Gear Slots

Now for the specific pieces, I will list main stats and additional stats. For Acts 1 & 2, you might be fine with only 2 of the main stats, but for A3/4 you’re going to have to look for 3 of them. I will only list the specific additional stats, as I believe for example armor and additional resists can spawn on any item. Always look for those, as they can in some cases make up for a low amount of one of the main stats. A good example is if an item gives no or low vitality, but it gives life% instead.

Ok, let’s get started!
