Stop Hoarding and Start Leveling!

by Jassper of The Diablo 3 Leveling Guide

As some of you may have already heard, Blizzard has announced that white items are essentially worthless. With the removal of the Cauldron of Jordan and the Nephalem Cube, players are no longer able to sell or salvage items mid-quest and instead must return to town to do so.

A great way to really slow down your leveling is to loot WAY too many items like these. While it is tempting to pick up everything that enemies drop, the vast majority of these items are really not worth your time.

Blizzard has officially stated that the purpose of white items is simply to enhance the overall impact of the “loot explosion” that occurs when an enemy is slain, almost acting as a “confetti” to enhance the excitement as you sift through the junk hoping for an item of REAL value such as a rare or a legendary.  Unfortunately, some players just won’t listen!

Many players feel compelled to loot these items and sell them for gold once their bags are full, thinking that they will get rich in the process. Some players have even gone so far as to claim that this ultimately speeds the leveling process because gathering these junk items for extra gold will allow them to purchase better gear more quickly on the auction house and thus power through the game at a faster rate.

I can assure you, the time it takes to pick up ALL of these white items, fill your bags, return to town, sell them all, return back to your adventures and continue repeating the process is nowhere near enough gold per hour to justify the eventual modest accumulation of wealth that will come as a result.

If you’re looking to purchase better gear on the auction to speed up your leveling (which I certainly recommend!), there are far more efficient gold-making strategies that can be employed, such as many of those discussed over at Markco’s Diablo 3 Gold Guide.

Now let’s just hope that Blizzard is generous enough with the rares and legendaries that we’re not always sifting through garbage and coming up empty-handed!

Nice post. Another thing some people do is sell their blue (magic) quality items for gold instead of salvaging them. This is a horrible idea! Definitely salvage anything you don’t need, or better yet, sell it on the auction house.
